May 2001: Black Forest Stables proudly introduces the Black Forest draft horse to North America!

We are honored to be the first North American importers of the rare and endangered breed of draft horses, the Black Forest Draft. Also known as the Schwarzwälder Fuchs or Schwarzwälder Kaltblut, these horses have been on the endangered breed list in their native Germany for over a quarter of a century. While the breed itself dates back 600 years, there are currently only about 1,000 of these horses in existence. To help preserve this rare jewel, we established Black Forest Stables in Seattle, Washington in 2001, and in partnership with their Breeders’ Association of Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart, Germany, began importing these wonderful horses here to the states.

Come in to our web site, sit back and enjoy the historical and photographic journey. Our goal is to help others recognize what a truly unique horse has now found a home on our continent. If you would be interested in importing and/or breeding a Black Forest horse of your own, please contact us, and we will help you discover these strong, beautiful animals for yourself. There’s really nothing else like them. Thank you for visiting!
